About Us
One of the first soldiers to be enrolled into the Great Yarmouth Corps was Harry Chittleburgh, when Captain Buckle formed a band at the Great Yarmouth Corps, Harry Chittleburgh was the first bandsman to be commissioned. Mr Chittleburgh became Bandmaster in 1890 and was Promoted to Glory in 1944 after 58 years service. Our present Bandmaster (acting) is Gordon Tyrell, Gordon is married to Sylvia who is the Songster Leader here at the Great Yarmouth Corps. Gordon has two sons and a daughter, James, Kingsley and Katie. James plays solo cornet in the band and Kingsley plays Euphonium. Sylvia is also an accomplished trombonist. The Senior Corps Band continues to bring Gods message to the folk of Great Yarmouth through its open air witness all year round, in the summer months you will find the band on the sea front every Sunday morning through to September. In the winter months the band witnesses to the elderly of various retirement homes, nursing homes and hospitals around the area, then there is that magical time of year, Christmas Carroling. Is it realy only for the Kids, I dont think so. |
